Module 10 - Scenario Simulator

SRC exam application drill

Use How to Use the Simulator as a spoken procedure drill, not just a reading exercise. In the SRC exam and on board, the safe answer starts by choosing the traffic priority, then the channel or DSC route, then the words that make the situation clear.

Work the drill in four passes: say the scenario risk, choose the priority, build the call in order, and say what you expect to hear next. If you cannot name the expected reply, the procedure is not yet reliable enough for cockpit use.

Priority

Is anyone in grave and imminent danger?

SRC-standard answer: Mayday only for distress; Pan-Pan for urgency; Securite for safety.

Route

Is this DSC signalling, voice follow-up, or routine voice?

SRC-standard answer: Use the correct function/channel before building the words.

Content

What must the receiving station know?

SRC-standard answer: Identity, position, nature of problem, assistance required, and persons on board where relevant.

Follow-up

What happens after the call?

SRC-standard answer: Listen, write instructions, acknowledge correctly, and keep the set watched.

Key points

  • Priority first: distress, urgency, safety, or routine.
  • Channel or DSC route second: do not put voice traffic on Channel 70.
  • Identity and position must be ready before a serious call.
  • The reply matters; release PTT and listen before transmitting again.
