1. About Us

These terms apply to the course websites and branded domains listed below, together referred to as the "Service":

The Service is operated by Compass Revision, 6 Farm Lane, Send, Woking, Surrey, GU23 7AT, United Kingdom. You can contact us at support@compassrevision.com.

2. Nature of the Service

The Service provides independent, self-study revision aids designed to supplement preparation for the sailing theory courses offered through the websites listed above. By using this Service you acknowledge and agree that:

  • The Service is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or connected to the Royal Yachting Association (RYA) in any way.
  • The Service is not a substitute for formal maritime training, practical instruction, or any official RYA theory course.
  • The Service does not constitute professional maritime advice. Navigation at sea requires proper qualifications, practical experience, and up-to-date official publications.
  • The content is for educational and revision purposes only.

3. No Guarantee of Exam Success

While the Service is designed to help you revise effectively, we make no guarantee or warranty that using the Service will result in you passing any RYA theory assessment, practical assessment, or other examination. Exam success depends on many factors beyond the scope of this tool.

Journey, practical training and charter information

The journey planner, training finder, Passport, training organisation profiles, comparison pages and charter guides are free information services. They do not constitute legal, insurance, immigration, qualification, safety or booking advice and do not guarantee that a qualification, certificate or experience record will be accepted.

  • Confirm current rules, prerequisites, recognition, availability, prices, inclusions and terms with the responsible authority, insurer, training organisation or charter operator.
  • Compass does not take third-party course or charter payments, hold deposits, package travel, verify certificate scans, or operate public reviews of training organisations.
  • Training and charter handoffs lead to independent third parties whose contracts, cancellations, inventory and services are their responsibility.
  • Training partner payment, sponsorship or commission does not influence organic ranking. Sponsored placements, if activated, are separate and labelled.
  • Self-declared Passport records are not verified evidence of competence.
  • Training partner applicants must be authorised to represent the organisation and must submit accurate, attributable business information, course details and media they own or have permission to supply.
  • Training partner applications, profile claims and material listing changes require Compass approval. Compass may request evidence, reject, unpublish or suspend a listing to protect accuracy, safety, legality or the integrity of the service.
  • Training partners connecting schedule feeds must control the endpoint and credentials, keep its data accurate, and understand that retrieved changes remain subject to Compass approval before publication.
  • Training partners may confirm availability or remove their own approved dates, but cannot buy publication, organic position or preferential editorial treatment.

4. Content Accuracy

We take reasonable care to ensure that the content provided is accurate and up to date. However, nautical regulations, standards, and best practices change over time. The Service may not reflect the very latest amendments to regulations such as the International Regulations for Preventing Collisions at Sea (COLREGs), IALA buoyage standards, or Admiralty publications.

You should always refer to official, current publications — including Admiralty charts and publications, the current edition of the RYA training materials, and Notices to Mariners — for definitive and up-to-date information. Do not rely solely on this Service for navigation or safety-critical decisions.

5. Payment and Access

Each course website may offer a free tier (limited modules) and a paid tier (full access to that course's modules, interactive tools, and mock exams).

  • Full access is available for the one-time price displayed at the time of purchase.
  • There are no subscriptions, recurring charges, or auto-renewals.
  • Payment is processed securely by Stripe. We do not store your payment card details.
  • Access is granted to the email address used at checkout and applies to the course purchased unless the checkout page clearly states otherwise. You can restore access on additional devices using that email address or your signed-in account.

6. Refund Policy

Where the law gives you a cancellation right for digital content, that right may be lost once supply begins only if you gave the required express consent and acknowledged that consequence. This does not affect your remedies if digital content is faulty or not as described.

Separately, Compass Revision offers a voluntary 14-day money-back guarantee. If you are not satisfied with the Service, contact us within 14 days of purchase at support@compassrevision.com and we will provide a full refund. This guarantee is in addition to your statutory rights.

7. Limitation of Liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law:

  • The Service is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including but not limited to implied warranties of merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose, or non-infringement.
  • Our total aggregate liability to you for any claim arising out of or in connection with the Service shall not exceed the amount you have paid for the relevant course access.
  • We shall not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages, including but not limited to loss of profits, revenue, data, or business opportunities, however caused.
  • We shall not be liable for any loss or damage arising from your reliance on content provided by the Service for navigation, safety, or any maritime activity.

Nothing in these terms excludes or limits our liability for: (a) death or personal injury caused by our negligence; (b) fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation; or (c) any matter for which it would be unlawful to exclude or limit liability.

8. Intellectual Property

All content, design, code, graphics, and interactive tools on the Service are owned by Compass Revision or used under licence. You are granted a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable licence to access and use the Service for your own private study. You may not reproduce, distribute, modify, create derivative works of, publicly display, or commercially exploit any content from the Service without prior written consent.

9. Acceptable Use

You agree not to:

  • Share, resell, or redistribute your access to the Service.
  • Attempt to circumvent any access controls or payment mechanisms.
  • Use automated tools to scrape, copy, or extract content from the Service.
  • Use the Service in any way that could damage, disable, or impair it.

We reserve the right to terminate or suspend access to the Service at our discretion if we reasonably believe you have breached these terms.

10. Third-Party Services

The Service uses third-party services for payment processing (Stripe), hosting (Vercel), authentication and optional analytics (Google), and transactional email (Resend). Your use of these services is subject to their respective terms and privacy policies. We are not responsible for the availability, security, or practices of third-party services.

Learner feedback and reviews

  • Feedback and reviews must describe your genuine experience and must not impersonate another person, include unlawful material, or disclose another person's private information.
  • Reviews may be positive, mixed, or critical. No payment, course access, result, or other benefit depends on the rating or whether you respond.
  • A review is eligible for publication only after course-specific activity is verified and you give explicit permission. We may approve, reject, or later unpublish it for authenticity, safety, privacy, legal, relevance, or moderation reasons.
  • We do not rewrite submitted review text. Approval is not guaranteed, and publication does not mean Compass endorses every statement in a review.
  • You may ask us to unpublish your review by contacting support. Private product feedback is not used as a public testimonial without separate publication permission.

11. Changes to These Terms

We may update these terms from time to time. The "last updated" date at the top of this page will be revised accordingly. Continued use of the Service after changes constitutes acceptance of the updated terms. If we make material changes, we will make reasonable efforts to notify users.

12. Governing Law

These terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
