Module 5 - Routine Calls
Ship-to-Shore Telephone Calls
The SRC syllabus includes making ship-to-shore telephone calls through a coast station where that service is available. Treat this as routine traffic: establish contact clearly, move to the instructed working channel, and keep the exchange concise.
Do not use distress, urgency, or safety channels for a private telephone conversation. If the situation is medical, urgent, or distress-related, use the correct priority call instead.
Key points
- Ship-to-shore telephone calls are routine traffic
- Use the coast station's instructions and working channel
- Use Mayday or Pan-Pan if the situation is not routine
