Module 5 - Routine Calls
Coast Stations And Public Correspondence
Active recall
Section 10 of 10
Explain the main idea from coast stations and public correspondence in your own words.
For a coast station that supports DSC, make an Individual DSC routine call using its published MMSI. When acknowledged, accept the working channel, change to it, and wait for the coast station to call you. Follow the station's instructions rather than starting voice traffic on Channel 70.
Public correspondence means a coast-radio service carrying a call into a public telecommunications network. Availability is now service- and area-dependent, but it remains in the SRC syllabus. The coast station establishes the circuit and may need the called number, charging details, and an Accounting Authority Identification Code (AAIC). Never invent an AAIC; use the account and instructions arranged for the vessel.
Key points
- Use the coast station's published MMSI and current service information.
- Wait on the nominated working channel for the coast station to call.
- AAIC identifies the accounting authority for chargeable public correspondence.
- Service availability and procedures must be checked for the operating area.
