What you will learn
Choose knowingly between local playback and optional uploaded live voice role-play, then use either path within its limits.
The simulator has two different microphone paths. Local recording stays in the current browser session; live role-play uploads audio for transcription only after explicit enablement and PTT release.
The local recorder sits under Build the call. It creates a browser object URL so you can replay your voice in the current session. Compass Revision does not upload that local recording. Clear it when finished, and remember that another person with access to the open browser session could hear it until it is cleared or the page ends.
Live voice role-play is separate and optional. Its enable panel explains the processing before asking for microphone permission. After you release PTT, the captured audio is uploaded to Compass Revision's protected transcription route and sent to ElevenLabs to create a transcript. Compass Revision does not store the audio, but provider handling and retention terms still apply.
Most transcript checking uses fixed authored rules. When those rules are uncertain and the feature is configured, the transcript—not the audio—may be classified through Vercel AI Gateway with prompt training prohibited. The transcript and recognised/missing details appear on screen for correction. Use Build the call or local playback if you do not want voice uploaded.

Choose the least data needed for the learning task
You want to hear whether you rush a Mayday position but do not want a recording processed by an external provider.
1. Use local playback
Build the authored call, start the local recorder and speak it aloud.
2. Review
Replay once against the position and identity checklist.
3. Clear
Remove the browser-session recording when the comparison is complete.
Sense check: Do not enable live role-play merely to replay your own voice; the local path already meets that need without upload.
Common mistake or limitation
- Saying every microphone mode is local-only.
- Assuming 'not stored by Compass Revision' means no external provider processes live-role-play audio.
- Treating a speech-to-text transcript as a perfect record of what was said.
