Module 9 - GMDSS & Safety Equipment
Read A NAVTEX Identity Before Reading The Message
A NAVTEX message identity uses B1 for the transmitter, B2 for the subject or message type, and B3B4 for the two-digit message number. Select transmitters for both the area you are in and the area you are approaching. Do not confuse the NAVTEX serial number with the numbering inside a navigational warning.
Subject indicators A, B, D, and L cannot be deselected: navigational warnings, meteorological warnings, search-and-rescue/piracy/tsunami and other urgent information, and additional navigational warnings. A message with subject D activates the receiver alarm. NAVTEX supplements, rather than replaces, the need to use current charts, forecasts, warnings, and local information.
