Module 9 - GMDSS & Safety Equipment

Common mistakes and fixes

The most likely mistake in this module is: Assuming one item of equipment guarantees rescue without registration, power, position, and follow-up.

Fix it by slowing the call down before pressing PTT. Decide the priority, prepare the essential information, then transmit clearly and briefly.

Rescue or assistance may be delayed.

Fix: Use latitude/longitude, bearing and distance, or a clear place name.

Talking too long

Other stations cannot break in easily.

Fix: Use short transmissions and listen between them.

Not listening after transmitting
