EPIRB, PLB, And Registration

An EPIRB or PLB can send a distress alert through satellite systems, but registration is what connects that alert to useful vessel and contact information.

Revision should not treat beacons as magic. They need batteries in date, correct registration, crew knowledge, and a plan for when and how to activate them.

  • Register beacons and keep details current.
  • Check battery and service dates.
  • Know activation and test procedures without sending false alerts.
  • Use VHF/DSC alongside beacon alerts when possible.
