Module 4 - Channels & Frequencies
Voice procedure drill
Practise aloud. Marine radio confidence is built by saying the words in order, not by recognising them on a screen.
Use a normal speaking voice, keep the message short, and pause after the call so the other station can reply. If the message is distress or urgency traffic, accuracy matters more than speed.
Key points
- Think: decide the call priority and the channel before pressing PTT.
- Press: hold PTT only while speaking.
- Speak: identity first, then position and request when relevant.
- Release: listen fully before transmitting again.
- Record: write down important instructions, times, positions, or channel changes.
