Module 4 - Channels & Frequencies

Channel Discipline

Channel discipline protects safety traffic. Listen before transmitting, keep the message brief, and do not use calling or distress channels for avoidable chatter.

If a channel is busy or the wrong service answers, pause and rebuild the call rather than talking over other stations.

Key points

  • Listen before transmitting.
  • Use correct priority and channel.
  • Move to a working channel when appropriate.
  • Return to the required listening watch afterwards.
