Module 7 - Urgency & Safety Calls
Applied SRC scenario
Scenario: A crew member has a serious injury but the boat is still under control, so the operator must choose Pan-Pan, request medical advice, and keep the channel clear.
A good answer should include the call priority, the channel or DSC action, the first spoken phrase, the details to include, and the expected follow-up.
Key points
- Use Pan-Pan to identify what kind of traffic this is.
- Use Urgency but not Mayday before choosing the next transmission.
- Avoid the main trap: Using Mayday for urgency traffic or Pan-Pan for a general navigation warning.
- State what you would do if no station replies the first time.
