Module 1 - Licensing & SRC Exam
The Reference Information Behind A Radio Identity
Active recall
Section 9 of 9
Explain the main idea from the reference information behind a radio identity in your own words.
Coast stations, ship stations, special-service stations, call signs, and MMSI assignments sit within national and international licensing records. In practice you use the vessel's licensed particulars and the current station information supplied for the area; you do not guess an MMSI from a vessel name.
The SRC requires awareness that official station lists and national manuals exist. Local channel allocations and service availability can change, so verify them from current almanacs, harbour directions, Coastguard information, or the service provider before transmitting.
Key points
- Use the licensed call sign and MMSI programmed for that station.
- Do not invent or infer a station MMSI.
- Check current local channel and service information before use.
